Start Point - Devon

An early morning visit to Start Point, or so I thought, had me racing to find a location, as upon arrival the sun was already peaking its head over the horizon. There was only one other photographer there who had obviously planned his visit wisely and had already grabbed the best spot. Not wanting to disturb him, as he was already set-up and clearly vlogging, I walked on a bit further.

I’d missed, I think, the best moments of the sunrise and was already having to deal with the intense lighting from the sun being directly in the frame but thinking positively I just enjoyed the moment, remoteness and tranquillity and shot away.

Start Point is on the most southerly tip of Devon, with stunning coastal scenery. From Start Point Car Park a short walk takes you down to Start Point Lighthouse which was built in 1836and saved many souls.

This brings me back to the other photographer, we had a brief chat, discussed the benefits of photography and I explained I do it as it gets me out, the fact I’d still be in bed if it wasn’t for my camera, missing this glorious sunrise and visiting this location. Despite my website I don’t do this for money, it’s not a business, I have a full-time job and photography is my escape, if I started pushing it as my main source of income the pressures would soon outweigh the enjoyment of finding and visiting these glorious places.

Now more on the photographer I met, his name is Henry Turner and you can watch the video he shot that morning, it’s really worth a watch if you have time, he’s really quite inspiring.

Photography is my Passion

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
